My Fabulous Style is sad to report Adam Yauch, B.K.A., MCA of the Beastie Boys passed away today at the age of 47. Yauch had a long battle with cancer. His publicist released a statement stating:
"It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam 'MCA' Yauch … passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer."
Yauch was a a part of the legendary Beastie Boys who made rap strides at the begining of hip hop at a time when there were few white rappers. He leaves behind a wife, Dechen and a 14-year-old daughter, Tenzin Lousel Yauch. In 2009, the rapper let the world know he would be undergoing surgery and radiation therapy to treat cancer in his salivary gland. The Beastie Boys were inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year and have won numerous Grammy's.
